Slow Cooker Apple Peanut Butter Crisp

Welcome to another month of the peanut butter bash. This month we're doing apples and peanut butter. The perfect ingredient combo for Fall and a personal favorite of mine. I love just cutting apples into slices and scooping up the peanut butter up. It was a childhood favorite that I was able to pass it down to my 6-year-old son. I think he prefers Reese's chocolate peanut butter spread, but peanut butter will do in a pinch.

I know I shared a pretty amazing apple peanut butter crumble a few years ago. I can't believe it's been that long. Time sure does fly. This is kind of a spin-off from that recipe but it's made for the slow cooker. I've been saying that I want to create more slow cooker recipes and I'm sticking to it. You can expect to see a few more from me in the next few months.

Who else is incredibly excited for Fall? Besides it being hoodie weather, I'm a pretty big fan of the flavors too. I can't wait to get my hands on some concord grapes. The local farmer's market sells them by the box full!!

It's a nice bonus that my creative juices really get flowing for the blog this time of the year. I have several ideas wrote down and as soon as I have a little bit of free time, I'm going to get testing. I should be catching up on work now that my kiddo has started 1st grade.

There's a healthy dose of topping to this recipe. If you don't want all of that extra topping, you may want to cut the topping ingredients in half. I also used this 4-quart slow cooker for this recipe.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 7 cups granny smith apples peeled, cored, sliced (about 8 small apples)
  • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 T. all-purpose flour

Topping

  • ¾ cup butter room temperature
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats

Instructions

  • In a 4-quart slow cooker, add in the apples, brown sugar, peanut butter, and flour. Stir until the apples are coated and everything is incorporated
  • In a large bowl, add in the butter and peanut butter. Mix on medium until combined.
  • Add in the brown sugar, flour, and oats and mix on medium until a crumbly mixture forms. Sprinkle the topping on the apples. It's a thick topping, so set aside some if it's too much for your liking.
  • Cover slow cooker with a paper towel and set to low. Let cook for 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. It depends on how you want your apples done. Mine were slightly firm, but not crunchy and I turned the heat off at 2 hours 45 minutes.
  • Scoop and serve. Add a scoop of ice cream too!

  1. Really interested to see more of your ideas implemented - the ones that you have written down somewhere, Miranda! Great recipe!

  2. This recipe looks great, I love anything with peanut butter. Thank you for sharing it, Miranda. I have a question whether you could go ahead and make the recipe in a conventional oven, since I don´t have a slow cooker.

    1. Hi Hana, I don't think that would be a problem! I would bake at 180C / 350F for at least 40 - 50 minutes and test the apples with a fork to make sure they're soft.
