Apple Peanut Butter Dog Cookies
I'm trying a little something different today. I know you probably know how much I love my furbabies. If you didn't, you do now! I love my dogs, kitties and old bird.
I made my dogs some doggie cookies for the #creativecookieexchange. What possessed me to make my dogs cookies this month? Well, the theme was to make someone's day cookies. I thought of my dogs and went to work. They're apple and peanut butter lovers, by the way.
In the spirit of the game day season, I made my dogs some football shaped cookies. After using it for the first time on these cookies, I have decided that I pretty much love this cutter a lot. It's pretty darn neat. I think it was a consignment shop find. I normally buy the cookie cutters by the bag full there.
Funny story about these cookies. The husband, who was super excited to see these cookies on the platter Friday night after a long day at work, asked who the cookies were for. I had a smirk on my face and said that he could eat them if he wanted. I thought he would have figured out after I had told him that I was making some doggie cookies that they weren't for him. Instead, he did an excited, hand-rubbing dance and then.. I had to break it to him. I kind of felt awful that he was super pumped about the cookies, but still found it funny. Does that make me a bad wife? No, it doesn't because I made him whoopie pies the next morning to make up for it.
Apple Peanut Butter Doggie Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 3 T. creamy peanut butter
- 1 T. honey
- 2 large eggs
- 4 ¼ cups whole wheat flour divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, add in the applesauce, peanut butter, and honey. Whisk until everything is combined.
- Add in the eggs one at a time and whisk each one until incorporated.
- Add in 4 cups of whole wheat flour. I used whole wheat pastry flour. Stir in with a spatula until all the flour is incorporated into the cookie dough. If it gets too hard to stir, use your hands.
- Dust a clean surface with the remaining ¼ cup of whole wheat flour. Press out the dough and use the remaining flour to top the dough.
- Roll the cookies out and cut the cookies out using your cutter of choice.
- Place on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely. The cookies will not be super hard. It will be slightly soft like a cookie.

These cookies are just downright adorable! I wonder if my cat would eat them? LOL
Thank you so much! Lol. I guess it depends on how crazy your kitty is. haha
I LOVE the way you ran outside the box on this one! GREAT share!
Thank you so much! I'm always making treats for my hubby and son, so I figured I would make something extra special for my pups this time!
Your devotion of making cookies for your furbabies, shows how much you love them... Lovely...
Thank you. 🙂 I do indeed love them!
Oh your fur babies would have loved these! Great flavor combo and what a cute shape.
Thank you! They ate them right down!
They are great looking cookies, Miranda. Our furry family members do indeed deserve yummy treats =) Pinning!
Thank you! 😀
What a cute story!! The cookies are adorable.
Thank you! The husband didn't find it nearly as cute. lol
I would have been sorely tempted not to say a word and see if he liked them, Miranda. Perhaps saying it was a new lower sugar recipe that was more like crackers. You know, like for cheese or dip. Bet he'd have LOVED them. I am thinking they'd be great with some extra mature cheddar or blue cheese. 🙂
haha! If he wasn't so happy and excited about it, I would have. He probably wouldn't have said anything other than they were good, just not very sweet. He's such a supportive spouse. 🙂
Oh how sweet for your furry friends! I think the ingredient list looks people friendly too.
It is very people friendly. They would need a little jazzing up for people though. Maybe a touch more honey?
What a great idea, perfect for this theme!!
Thank you!
These cookies would make my hounds very happy. They also love apples and peanut butter. That cutter is awesome too.
Thank you! My little dog goes crazy over apples!
