Why is this recipe called White Trash?
Well, it’s because it combines a little of whatever can be considered a snack: a little cereal, some nuts, some salty items, crunchy items, etc. You’re basically cleaning out your pantry and adding whatever items you have on hand.

Ingredients

See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all ingredients and quantities.
- Pretzel Twists – I think the twists hold the white chocolate better, but you can use pretzel sticks if you want.
- Bugles – Be sure to get the original flavored Bugles.
- Fritos Corn Chips – They don’t have to be Fritos brand, but those are our favorite.
- Chex Cereal – Rice, corn, or wheat chex cereal will work. Whatever you prefer.
- Peanuts – Use the roasted and salted peanuts for this recipe.
- M&M’s – If you don’t want festive M&M’s, you could go with original, preanut, or peanut butter.
- White Chocolate – chips, almond bark, or melting wafers work great for this recipe.
Substitutions and Variations
- You can switch out the peanuts in this recipe for salted cashews, pecans, almonds, or just leave them out.
- You can substitute the white chocolate with milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
- For a birthday mix, add rainbow sprinkles to the mix.
- For a peanut butter lovers variation, you can use peanut butter M&M’s, mini peanut butter cups, and a peanut butter drizzle using melted peanut butter chips.

How to make Christmas White Trash
Prep Work: Line two baking sheets or a counter with parchment paper.

Step 1: Add the pretzels, Bugles, corn chips, chex cereal, peanuts, and M&M’s to the large bowl and stir.
Step 2: Add the white chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 minute. Stir until most of the chocolate is melted. If it needs more time in the microwave, microwave in 30-second intervals and stir until smooth.
Step 3: Pour over the snack mix and stir until evenly coated.
Step 4: Spread the mixture on your prepared parchment paper and let the chocolate set up. Once the white trash is set up, break it apart and place in an airtight container at room temperature.

Tips for Success
Be sure to not overcook the chocolate. It should be smooth and pourable. You can heat the mixture for 1 minute and then stir for a minute to use the residual heat to continue melting the chocolate.
Work quickly once the chocolate is melted. You don’t want to let it cool down too much otherwise it will no longer be pourable and you won’t be able to get a even layer on top of your white chocolate snack mix.
How to Store and Freeze
Once the chocolate on the christmas white trash snack mix is set up, place it in an airtight container or storage bag for up to 1 week at room temperature.
I wouldn’t recommend freezing the snack mix. As it thaws, the condensation will soften the mix and no one wants that.
