Ingredient Notes

See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all ingredients and quantities.

Butter – Use room temperature butter so it creams up easily with the sugars. You can use salted or unsalted butter, but if you’re using salted butter, reduce the amount of salt you add to the cookie dough to 1/4 teaspoon.

Light brown sugar – The brown sugar adds moisture and a slight caramel flavor to the cookies. Dark brown sugar will work in this cookie recipe as well.

All-purpose flour – Be sure to fluff your flour by scooping it and sprinkling it back into the canister several times before the final measuring. Level the flour out with the back of a butter knife.

Baking soda – The leavening agent that helps the cookies spread and brown as they bake.

Sweetened dried cranberries – Also known as craisins. Yum! You can also get the ones with less sugar if you prefer.

Mini chocolate chips – These are almost always semi-sweet. You can use regular chocolate chips if you prefer.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Swap the mini chocolate chips for white chocolate chips to make cranberry white chocolate cookies.
  • Substitute the pecans for walnuts or leave the nuts out completely.
  • For a cookie that’s less sweet, use dark chocolate chips instead of mini chocolate chips.
  • For a sweeter cookie, use milk chocolate chips instead of the mini chcoolate chips.
  • Add freshly grated orange zest or a tasty orange and cranberry combination.
  • Swap the dried cranberries for any dried fruit using the same measurement.
