These Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls are a shortcut cinnamon roll that is far from an actual cinnamon roll, but oh-so-good! Soft Hawaiian rolls are sliced in half, fiilled with a buttery brown sugar and cinnamon mixture, baked untl warm and gooey, and covered with cream cheese icing.
Using a break knife, slice the rolls in half horizontally without separating them into individual rolls. You should have the top half of your rolls as a whole piece and the bottom half as a separate whole piece.
Place 2 tablespoons of butter in a 9x13 baking dish. Place the baking dish in the oven until the butter is completely melted.
Remove from the oven and lay the bottom half of the rolls in the pan.
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt 8 tablespoons of butter in short 30-second intervals until completely melted.
Add the brown sugar and cinnamon to the melted butter and stir until well combined.
Spread half of the brown sugar cinnamon mixture on the rolls in the pan.
Place the top of the rolls on the brown sugar cinnamon mixture.
Pour the remaining brown sugar cinnamon mixture on the tops of the rolls.
Place the rolls in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.
While the rolls are baking, begin to work on the icing.
Cream Cheese Icing
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the 30-second intervals in the microwave until completely melted.
Add the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and let sit for 10 minutes to cool.
Once the rolls have cooled for 10 minutes, pour the icing on the tops of the rolls and spread out evenly.
