I had promised sprinkles and I delivered! I didn’t have the fancy #134 tip, but I had a wilton #3. By the time I was finished my hand ached something horrible, but I must say I’m pretty impressed with my sprinkles. My son, however, was not impressed with how long it took for me to play around with my sprinkles while piping them. He cannot stand the fact that my attention isn’t 100% on him. It’s my own fault. I can’t resist his darling little round face. I want to kiss every little inch of his blonde bean.
Whew.. off subject. Let’s get back to those sprinkles.
Ta da! There is nothing like some paneling in the background to make this photo pop! I found this recipe on pinterest. My most favorite place ever! Thanks BraveTart for the recipe.
8 ounces powdered sugar
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 egg white
1 tsp vanilla
Mix the first four ingredients together. I used my hand mixer to whip it until it was a thick consistency. I used the pasteurized egg whites that come in a cartoon and vanilla bean paste for my royal icing mixture.
After I got it all combined, I got out my #3 tip and piping bag and let the magic begin with just some white icing. I used cookie trays lined with parchment paper. You can see little specks in the icing from the vanilla paste. I used Americolor Gel Paste food color to tint my colors. I wanted some pizzazz so I used electric pink and super red. After I piped hearts, x’s and o’s and tons of lines, I let them dry overnight in my oven. Of course my oven was turned off and I have three very, very curious kitties that I know wouldn’t leave them alone on the counter tops. Sometimes those little buggers can be such a pain. Anyhow, you want to let the sprinkles dry for 24 hours and not a minute before! Well, maybe a few minutes before, but anything else could possibly lead to a disaster. Let’s check out my fancy squiggly lines that were supposed to be straight lines.
As you can see, I got out my bench scraper and started hacking away on them. They should pull right up off from the parchment paper.
All finished! So maybe my hearts and such could use some work. I’ll get to that.. next valentine’s day. These cuties are going to go on some sugar cookies. My husband will be super pumped for his valentine’s baked good. He has a sweet tooth that is never fulfilled, which I LOVE!
I hope you enjoy the V-day Sprinkles. 😀
