When I started seeing these hot chocolate bombs on the internet, I knew I needed to share them with all of you. They are so awesome and don't need to be made overly complicated.

What are Hot Chocolate Bombs

They're tasty little chocolate treats that you can drink during the cold months!

Hot Chocolate Bombs are hollow spheres of chocolate that are made in silicone molds that have hot cocoa mix and sometimes marshmallows inside it.

They're then placed in a mug and melt when hot milk is poured over the top of them. Stir in the melted chocolate and hot cocoa mix and drink up.

Hot Chocolate Bomb Recipe Ingredients

Because these are hot chocolate bombs with marshmallows, there are 3 ingredients instead of two. If you want to skip the marshmallows, this is a 2 ingredient DIY treat.

How to make Hot Chocolate Bombs

There are a few tricky parts to making these cocoa bombs. The first is figuring out how to seal the two pieces together and the second would be doing it without getting fingerprints all over your bombs.

Melt your chocolate in the microwave. Chop the almond bark up and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave it in 30 second intervals and stir after each interval until the chocolate is completely smooth.

Cover the silicone mold cavities with the melted chocolate. Using these two molds, add about 1 to 2 tablespoons of chocolate to a cavity. Using the back of the spoon or a pastry brush, coat each cavity so it's thoroughly coated with chocolate including the top edge. Let the chocolate sit until it's completely hardened.

Fill 6 of the 12 half spheres with hot cocoa mix and marshmallows. I like to throw on a pair of gloves and remove the chocolate from the molds. Place the shells on a piece of parchment paper or wax paper. Fill half of the shells with the cocoa and marshmallows.

Seal the hot chocolate bombs shut. I've tried a few different ways and they all went decently. Keep your gloves on while doing this part to prevent any fingerprints.

#1 I added some additional melted chocolate to a sandwich bag and cut a small hole in the corner. I carefully piped chocolate on the edge of the half-sphere staying close to the inner edge so it would fall inside instead of out. Place the top on and use a spoon or the side of a skewer to remove any excess chocolate from the outside of the shell. Let it sit until the chocolate sets up.

#2 Pop a plate in the microwave for about 45 seconds to 1 minute until it's very warm. Place the top of the sphere on the place for 3 to 5 seconds until it begins to melt and then immediately set it on top of the filled bottom half. Using a spoon or the side of a skewer, remove the excess chocolate from the outside of the shell. Let it sit until the chocolate has set up.

#3 Never take the bottom of the sphere out of the mold. So you'll only remove 6 of the shells and I would stagger the ones that you remove so they're easier to work with in the mold. Fill it with cocoa mix and marshmallows while it's still in the mold. Adding melted chocolate to a sandwich bag and cutting a small hole in the corner of the bag, pipe along the edge of the bottom half. Set the top half of the shell on the piped chocolate and use a paper towel to carefully remove any excess chocolate.

Decorate the hot chocolate bombs however you want. Melt some extra chocolate or white chocolate in the microwave in 30 second intervals and stirring until smooth. Add it to a new sandwich bag and cut a small hole in one of the corners. Leaving the bombs on the parchment paper, use even pressure and move the bag of chocolate back and forth over top of the bombs.

How to use a Hot Chocolate Bomb

I read on a post in a Facebook group a joke about someone thinking this was a bath bomb instead of something you drink. That's when I thought it was probably best to share how to use a hot chocolate bomb. No one really wants to make that mistake and waste a delicious drink by throwing it in their bath tub.
